Aceh, the most western province in Indonesia, is
known as an implementing Islamic Sharia Law province in Indonesia. It is also
known as the only province in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country
to implement Islamic Law.
Aceh, the Nanggroe earth, was more
known massively by the world after the Tsunami on 2004 had happened. So many
miracles had happened since that time which mad ethis ‘Serambi Mekkah’city
branded as a true Islamic province. It is true. We will get a different nuance,
if we are in Aceh. Islamic nuance will undoubtedly be felt by us. I have been
doing.
According to Law of Republic of
Indonesia No. 11 Year 2006, there is about the Aceh’s special treatment in
which the government may hold the Islamic Sharia Law. Qanun, the Islamic Sharia
Law, was sparked to rule people. All of Qanun content are based on Quran,
Hadith and the law of Republic of
Indonesia as well.
Quran Surah Al-Maidah verse 90 –“O you who have believed,
indeed, Intoxicants, gambling, (sacrificing on) stone alters (to other than
Allah) and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid
it that you may be successful” and
Quran Surah An-Noor verse 2 –“The (unmarried) woman
and (unmarried) man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them
with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of
Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the
believers witness their punishment”.
In the verses of
Quran above tell us that intoxicants, gambling and also unmarried sexual
intercourse are truly forbidden; and show us how the punishment of the law
breaker is.
Actually, increasingly people caned
indicates that the Islamic Sharia Law does not hold well (Serambi Indonesia,
2015). The law should make people get away from the things which can just break
the law. So that, the caned punishment should not be done. If anytime, there is
nothing who is caned anymore, it means no law breaker. And it will just
indicate that the Islamic Sharia Law is truly implemented by people.
But, I had seen the execution for
the law breakers. It was exactly on March 1, 2016 in Gampong Rukoh, Banda Aceh.
Six young men were caught drinking alcohol in a hotel room, they got caned 40
times. Ten people were caught gambling, they got caned 6 to 7 times. And young
unmarried couple were caught spending time alone together. The verses of Quran
relating to those actions, as above, had been pronounced by the judiciary
before the execution was done.They wore white clothes. They will be caned by
their turn and according to their fail. Some of them are college students who
are not from Aceh.
In the execution, the executors were
the men whose body is totally closed and even their face, except their eyes, to
keep privacy of the executors. But actually, most of people know that the
executors were member of WH (Wilayatul Hisbah). Wilayatul Hisbah is an
institution which is Islamic Sharia Police in Aceh. They work to hold Islamic
Sharia Law.
Based on Quran above, the execution
should be done in front of crowded people. By caned, the law breakers are
expected to be cured of a habit and do taubah. It was not to make shame on or
to torture the breakers. That was the way for a changing to be better. The people
watching could get a brightness to introspect their selves for getting better
too.
The people watching do not need
shouting the people caned because they, the Islamic Sharia Law breakers, may
not even be worse than us,”said Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal, the Mayor of Banda
Aceh.
